The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) is committed to collecting LGBT data through federal national health surveys, the Washington Blade reports. HHS currently does not collect LGBT data. HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said the questions for the surveys would have to be test marketed and worded in the right way before being made part of any questionnaire. She gave no time line for when this market testing would be complete or when the questions would be included on the surveys. Suggestions for data collection include asking whether someone identifies as LGBT or asking on HIV-related surveys whether someone has had sex with people of the same gender.
