Doug Ireland, Journalist and POZ Contributor, Dies

Doug Ireland, a journalist who wrote about politics, the media and LGBT issues, died October 26 in New York City, Gay City News (GCN) reports. He was 67. Although no cause of death has been released, he was not in good health in recent years, including two major strokes, diabetes, severe sciatica and after-effects of childhood polio. Ireland was the contributing editor for international affairs for GCN. He previously was a columnist for the Village Voice and New York magazine. He also was a contributing editor for POZ. Early in his career, Ireland was involved in political campaigns, working as a staffer for former U.S. Senator Eugene McCarthy (D–Minn.), who ran for U.S. president, and former U.S. Representative Bella Abzug (D–N.Y.), who ran for the U.S. Senate to represent New York.
