Chicago’s Dance for Life Raises $350K for Local AIDS Groups

Chicago’s top dance companies recently held the 11th annual Dance for Life benefit to support citywide HIV prevention and awareness services. The August 17 performance at Auditorium Theatre helped raise nearly $350,000 for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, the Dancer’s Fund and Chicago House.

The two-act spectacular was led by executive producer Anthony Guerrero and included top dancers from Giordano Dance Chicago, Thodos Dance Chicago, River North Dance Chicago, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and DanceWorks Chicago.

Joining them on stage were independent artists Abigail Simon and Mauro Villanueva plus award-winning choreographers Harrison McEldowney, Jeremy Plummer and Randy Duncan.

The event kicked off with a pre-performance gala in the International Ballroom of the Hilton Chicago. Sponsors provided gourmet cuisine, specialty cocktails and raffle prizes including round-trip international airfare courtesy of American Airlines.

Dance for Life was founded in 1992 as a way for dancers and dance companies with limited funding opportunities to be able to contribute time, effort and money to local AIDS organizations and to establish a fund to provide assistance to dancers living with the virus.
