More Prisoners to Get Access to Condoms in Australia
Victoria has become one of the last Australian states to
provide condoms to prisoners in order to prevent sexually transmitted
infections, The Age reports. Health
workers will initially hand out condoms and dental dams in two men’s prisons and
two women’s prisons before the program is expanded to all prisons in Victoria. A
recent study by the University of New South Wales (NSW) found 7 percent of male
prisoners and a third of female prisoners in NSW and Queensland reported having
sex with another prisoner.
