Senator Clinton to Propose AIDS Policy
Following the announcements of AIDS strategies from her two Democratic rivals Barack Obama and John Edwards, Hillary Clinton is expected to reveal today in South Carolina her policy on fighting the epidemic both at home and abroad (nytimes.com, 11/27).
Like Obama and Edwards, Clinton plans to spend $50 billion on fighting HIV/AIDS globally by 2013. She would also double funding for research at the National Institutes of Health, resulting in an annual fund of $5.2 billion. Obama and Edwards also plan to increase this funding.
According to a paper outlining her plan provided by her campaign, Clinton backs needle-exchange programs and would provide “age-appropriate information about HIV/AIDS.”
