By signing the agreement, Clinton pledges to provide at least $50 billion to fight HIV/AIDS by 2013 and to provide additional funding to impoverished countries.
“By signing this pledge, [Clinton] builds on her strong record as an advocate on AIDS and global poverty,” says Dr. Paul Zeitz, executive director of the Global AIDS Alliance Fund. “She is once again showing that she is prepared to deliver on the reforms we need to preserve America’s standing in the world.”
Clinton also promises to increase the number of health workers by at least 1 million, encourage self-sufficiency in preventing transmission, and provide treatment in remote, impoverished regions.
