HIV Spikes Among Bulgarian Youth
Over the past several years, 25 percent of new HIV cases in Bulgaria have occurred in people under the age of 25—attributable mainly to high-risk activities such as intravenous drug use, says Tonka Vurleva, of the country’s national campaign against AIDS (sofiaecho.com).
Vurleva spoke at the opening of a regional AIDS service and educational center in Sofia, the nation’s capital. The facility—which will serve Eastern Europe and Central Asia—is supported by local health officials and will be funded from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
