Bienestar, a social services organization in Southern California serving Latinos and other underserved communities, has filed suit against the landlord of its new Van Nuys location for terminating the lease and changing the locks only 48 hours after opening its doors, according to a Bienestar statement. Bienestar alleges the landlord said it is “bringing disease” to the building because it serves people living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS. The organization will temporarily provide limited services from its mobile unit outside its previous Van Nuys location, which is just half a block from the new location. Bienestar has nine locations throughout Southern California.
