A group called Planting Peace is countering the anti-HIV and anti-gay sermon of an Arizona pastor with a compassionate campaign that raises AIDS funds and sends a lump of coal to the preacher, the Huffington Post reports.

During a November 30 sermon referencing upcoming World AIDS Day campaigns, Pastor Steven Anderson told this congregation that an AIDS-free world was attainable by Christmas and that in fact a cure for HIV is found in the Bible. He then referenced Leviticus 18:22 and said, “If you executed the homos like God recommends, you wouldn’t have all this AIDS running rampant.” A video of the sermon went viral.

To counter that message with one of compassion, Planting Peace launched a campaign in which people can donate money to help those living with HIV/AIDS. For every donation, Planting Peace will send a lump of coal to Anderson. Wrapped in festive packaging, the coal will be delivered to Tempe’s Faithful Word Baptist Church, where Anderson preaches.
