amfAR Gives $500,000 to Four Young HIV/AIDS Researchers

The Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) has announced its sixth round of Mathilde Krim Fellowships in Basic Biomedical Research, according to an amfAR statement. Named in honor of amfAR’s founding chair, the fellowships support the work of young HIV/AIDS researchers. Four fellows will each receive $125,000. The new Krim fellows are Christine Durand, MD, of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; Lucie Etienne, PhD, of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle; Alon Herschhorn, PhD, of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; and Leopold Kong, PhD, of the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. They are doing work in cure research, epidemiological research, vaccine development and treatment development.
