“Countdown to a Cure for HIV/AIDS” is a new initiative from amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, to find a broadly applicable cure for HIV by 2020, according to an amfAR statement. The foundation plans to invest $100 million in the initiative. Also planned is a “Cure Council,” which would be a volunteer group of leading researchers to recommend investments in the most promising areas. In 2010, the foundation launched the amfAR Research Consortium on HIV Eradication (ARCHE), which supports teams of scientists around the world in their collaborative cure research efforts.
