The United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on AIDS will take place June 8 to 10 in New York City to reaffirm current pledges to the global AIDS response and adopt a new Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS, according to the U.S. Department of State. A new global plan to eliminate pediatric HIV will also be released. More than 30 heads of state, government officials and vice presidents—in addition to representatives from The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and UNAIDS—are attending the meeting. U.N. member states are expected to adopt the policies set forth in the declaration, which will guide the countries’ response to AIDS for the next five years.
