TAG Finds No Growth in TB Investment
New data released by the Treatment Action Group (TAG) show that in 2010 the world spent less money in tuberculosis research and development than it did in 2009, the first time there has been no growth since TAG began tracing TB investments, according to a TAG statement. Titled Tuberculosis Research and Development: 2011 Report on Tuberculosis Research Funding Trends, the report found that in 2010 the world spent $617 million on TB R&D, less than one third of the $2 billion annual target the Stop TB Partnership estimates is needed to eliminate TB. The report also documented significant decreases in funding in basic science and vaccines research, and it called for investors to rededicate funds in 2012.
