Following an HIV case that shut down pornography production in 2010, Los Angeles lawmakers voted unanimously to plan regulations requiring condoms to be used on set, The New York Times reports. The industry has been self-regulating mainly through the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM), a nonprofit clinic financed by porn production companies. The county health department shut down AIM because of an improper license. It reopened under the supervision of the California Medical Association. Los Angeles County health officials say they lack the resources to enforce condom oversight and that the state has yet to draft a law.
