Maine to Lose a Third of Its Federal HIV Funding in 2014
Maine is expecting to lose about a third of its current federal funding for HIV/AIDS in 2014, the Maine Public Broadcasting Network reports. As the federal government moves to reallocate limited funds to urban states with high HIV/AIDS caseloads, other states will continue to lose funds. The Maine Center for Disease Control’s director was able to appeal a decision of immediate cuts, but funding will be limited. Maine is expecting only about eight new HIV/AIDS cases to be diagnosed in 2011.
