U.S. Representative Barbara Lee (D–Calif.) and U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg (D–N.J.) have introduced a bill to expand comprehensive sex education in schools, according to a statement by Lee. The Real Education for Healthy Youth Act aims to promote programs that combine information about abstinence and contraception in hopes of lessening the country’s high teen pregnancy rates and new cases of sexually transmitted infections. The legislation would assist schools in implementing age-appropriate, medically accurate and evidence-based sex-ed curriculums.
