In anticipation of the XIX International AIDS Conference to be held in Washington, DC, in July 2012, Mayor Vincent C. Gray has created the Mayor’s Commission on HIV/AIDS to help end the HIV epidemic in the nation’s capital, according to a statement from the DC Department of Health (DOH). The 27-member commission appointed by the mayor will include the medical community, the faith-based community, the private sector and the public sector. DOH also will implement immediate changes, such as HIV/AIDS treatment on demand by any DC resident needing it.
