The federal government will not limit the level of emergency funding that states, especially Florida, can receive for their AIDS Drug Assistance Programs to less than what they received last year, according to a statement from The AIDS Institute. Florida currently has 3,680 people on its ADAP waiting list, which represents 42 percent of the wait lists nationwide. An earlier statement from the Obama administration limited the level of emergency ADAP funding to $3 million, an amount that would have forced Florida to remove people currently funded by the program. Under the clarified guidelines, Florida will receive at least $7 million, which is what it received last year. The funds will be enough to keep the program functioning, but not enough to reduce the growing wait list.
