China Adopts “Treatment as Prevention” Strategy
China will adopt a nationwide “treatment as prevention” strategy modeled on the work of Canada’s BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE), according to a BC-CfE statement. China has worked closely with BC-CfE to help develop its strategy. China will plan for widespread HIV testing and treatment. The strategy is based on BC-CfE research published in 2010 showing that HIV treatment significantly prevented transmission of the virus.
