Michigan GOP state Representative Dave Agema (R–Grandville) has introduced a bill to eliminate state funding for HIV prevention, testing and care, the Michigan Messenger reports. Agema has proposed eliminating the Michigan health fund initiative (MHFI), a $9 million budget used to fund HIV services in the state as well sexually transmitted infection field support work and research done for the Detroit health department. Agema proposed channeling the MHFI money into the Michigan Aeronautics Fund, a move that he said will help pay for upkeep and expansion projects at state airports, will create jobs and keep fuel taxes down.
