Viral Download: An AIDS E-Mail Scam

July 24—Typically known for posing as ousted African royals who need to smuggle a small fortune into U.S. bank accounts, which they promise to share with anyone who “lends” them money up front, Nigerian e-mail scammers have a new approach. Now they’re asking for money to fund a new miracle root “proven to kill the HIV virus.” The Yahoo-based e-mail asks for private financial info that can lead to identity theft.
