July 12, 2006—Just in time for the international Gay Games opening in Chicago this weekend, the Chicago Tribune reports on widespread frustration with the longstanding U.S. ban on HIV positive foreign visitors. The ban was waived for the games, but organizations from the American Medical Association to the World Health Organization want to see it lifted permanently on the grounds that HIV cannot be spread through casual contact. Iran and Saudi Arabia are two of very few nations still completely banning positive visitors.
