South African Prisoners Win Meds
June 26, 2006—A South African court ruled last week that Westville prison has two weeks to get HIV meds to 15 prisoners who sued the government for not receiving treatment. An estimated 40% of South Africa's prisoners have HIV. The Department of Corrections plans to appeal the decision, although it claims to be developing a program to better treat positive inmates.
