Russia May Lose Global Funds
May 24, 2006—The World Bank has reclassified Russia as an upper-middle-income country, a status that may lose it millions in international AIDS funds. About one percent of the population—one million people—are believed to be HIV positive, but the country’s income per capita may make it ineligible for money from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
