Pelosi Blocks AIDS Funding Cut

House Democrats led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi blocked a Republican attempt Wednesday to cut $6.3 in federal AIDS funds going to San Francisco and two neighboring counties. The attempted cut is part of an ongoing tug of war over limited AIDS money that pits urban centers hit hard by AIDS early in the epidemic against other locales, mostly in the south, that were hit later.
