When Free Treatment Has a Pricetag
So-called “free” HIV treatment in developing countries often requires patients to fork over payments for tests, medical care and other services, according to a report by the International Treatment Preparedness Coalition. The goal of getting 5 million positive people on meds by 2010 is not achievable, the report says, and prohibitive costs are one of the main reasons why.
