Abstinence Supporters Rally Back
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released a 40-page report countering criticism of abstinence-only education with charges that pro-condom sex ed is full of inaccuracies and misleading information. The study, commissioned by Senator Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and former senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.), says condom failure and abstinence are not discussed enough. Last week, HHS also announced a new $8.5 million television, radio and print campaign that will urge parents to teach their kids about abstinence.
