Today Is HIV Vaccine Awareness Day

HIV vaccine candidates now in testing may prove valuable even if none actually prevents HIV infection, according to an analysis of current research released on the occasion of the 10th annual HIV Vaccine Awareness Day. The New England Journal of Medicine review suggests that a vaccine that prolongs disease-free survival after infection and reduces secondary transmission of HIV might be part of an overall HIV/AIDS prevention strategy.
