A new program called “Phones for Health” will utilize Africa’s exploding mobile phone market to fight HIV/AIDS in ten nations on the continent. The initiative, announced at the 3GSM World Conference in Barcelona, is the result of an alliance between the US government and leading mobile service providers and will utilize cell phone software to allow for the rapid transfer of information, including medical alerts, medication orders and treatment guidelines.
