Safe-Sex Therapy
University of California-San Francisco’s Healthy Living Project claimed in the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes that after participating in its psychotherapy program, HIV positive people were as much as 36 percent less likely to transmit the virus to others. The program’s 90-minute sessions addressed stress, coping, and safer behaviors—with follow-up monitoring 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 months afterward. The investigators acknowledged that after 25 months, “the treatment effects were not maintained.”
