HIV Hits Afghanistan
Having reported only 69 official cases of HIV among its citizens, Afghanistan may be underestimating its HIV incidence by the thousands, according to the New York Times. Experts inside the country believe that a thriving heroin trade and conflict-related factors like mass movement of the population, an influx of foreigners and a lack of HIV education and government services are fueling a spike in new infections.
