HIV Chases Women Down the Oil Pipeline

Oil companies promised new jobs and economic growth when they built two new pipelines in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, but instead brought foreign workers and an increase in poverty, sex trafficking and HIV-positive women. Those were the findings of a new report analyzing the effects of pipelines flowing through Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey that cost billions of dollars to build.
