September 5, 2006—About 35 Iraqi hemophiliacs, surviving family members and the Iraqi Red Crescent Society are suing two European companies for allegedly supplying HIV-tainted blood clotting agents in the ‘80s. The case, one of the first civil lawsuits in Iraq since the American invasion in 2003, follows a similar U.S. suit in 1996 that resulted in a $660 million settlement.
