I was diagnosed as HIV+ in 1985, now 76. I could not wait to start medication, even though it was only AZT at the time. I thought that just like cancer or any other potentially fatal disease, starting meds as soon as possible made perfect sense. Delayed starting of meds and drug holidays were popular because patients didn't like the meds. Never made sense to me. I am still here. It was a fatal crime advising patients they could do/delay without drugs. No surprise in this finding.
