Gary, thanks so much for sharing your story. Known since 2/18/83 when my dtg was born with sick with aids. She didn,t make it but I always worried what I would do if I ever needed chemo. Forgot to tell you I,m a nurse. Before the drugs I got MAI , PCP and toxo . I swore at that time I would never do chemo to keep me alive. I had a temp of 104-5 for about a month with MAI. Undetectable since 98 ,of course with all the usual side effects of being a long timer but never with cancer. be well
it's funny that this was in Boston, Ma. back in 1987 I was diagnosed in Cambridge, Ma by a prominent doctor that I was HIV+ and had 6mths to live and he told me this over the phone while I was at work... I lived over 18yrs with death feelings on my shoulder. It put a bitter taste in my mouth for northern doctors. here I am a survivor for over 27years, most wasted from that news in 1987.
Gary Steinkohl, you most definitely are a writer! Your comments make wonderful reading. Thanks so much for your generous contributions.
Great Inspirational and sad article simultaneously. By the way there seems to be information about HIV hiding in body reservoirs, like fat tissue, lymph nodes, brain, etc., but have not heard of HIV hiding in bone marrow. If HIV loves to infect blood cells and these are created inside the bone marrow, wouldnt it be somewhat logical to assume that HIV manages to find its way inside the bone marrow and infect cells there? Has any scientific research been done in this respect?
This is an amazing story. So many emotions are involved. I am part of a research study, as well, and do recommend being a part of a study, if you're able. Any information can help researchers get closer a cure and/or a vaccine. Thanks to both Gary Steinkohl and the other patient for participating in the study. Data gained from this time will lead the way to more research in the near future! Follow Garyâ??s suggestion â?? join a study!

Gary, truly some wonderful miracles of medicine you have travel through in bravery of action. I feel like I have been in a research study my whole adult life and all us HIV people are part of this global study. So many new facts have came down the pipe line do to HIV human experiments, with a lot of fall out too. I am cautious in a direction of research for myself. I do hope and pray for a cure to be unveiled to the masses, soon, for I learned hope and joy can be contagious Healing In Victory
