Thank God for President Obama's insight on this devastating problem. How ever we must remember we have a republican controlled congress so how far this will go remains to be seen. What i fail to understand is how is it cheaper to defund prevention programs when everyone knows it much less expensive to prevent disease than to treat it. As for care programs the healthier we keep people the less expensive it is to care for them acess to medication = healthier outcomes which= less hospitalizations

Resp to Pat in TX I am 28 years as well I had insurance. the company closed I was unable to keep the insurance or get perm Hired due to the INS industry black list of anyone with a major Illness or disability. Yes I still work for a sm business that could not even afford Ins for the owner let alone employees. When the company folds as it will soon and having developed HIV related Epilepsy I can not get hired any place. Without help from Sec 8 ADAP and Ryan White I seize to death on the street.

This may be hair splitting, But Is it Discrimination to target Not only HIV but the Disabled in funding cuts, to programs, n services that when withheld will cause loss of life and increased suffering. I understand budget constraints, but on the fed level one stealth bomber would dbl the funding for health services to those in need. AZ is suing the Fed, over the border paying for it denying transplants on medicade. BTW no more rt wing cries over death panels here. Already 12 dead

I think some the programs are a waste of money, not to mention the pharma intense fight to start newly HIV infected persons on meds. We still live longer than those diagnosed with cancer. I am the point in my life, 28 years living this disease, that it make no difference whatsoever what happens with this funding fight. Remember, the majority of people diagnosed with HIV are still able to work, thus able to buy insurance to get their meds. Quit asking govt handouts!

While this sounds great we know the Republicans are in control of Congress and they want to decrease funding by $25 for HIV/AIDS in their proposal. I see didn't anywhere about Obama increasing funding to wipe out the ADAP Crisis, which in my view is TOP PRIORITY or did I miss something?

Cut back on foreign spending and take care of our own right here. Some U.S. citizens are on waiting lists to get life saving HIV/AIDS medicines. After we have taken care of our own, then we can take care of others in foreign countries. Do take the bread out of your children's mouths to feed others.
